MARISA GALILEA
ALPINE ADVENTURER &
FOUNDER OF VAMOS TREKKING
Hi, I’m Marisa, founder of Vamos Trekking. Growing up with an irrepressible urge to climb up, jump on and clamber over every rock I see, the mountains have always held a special place in my heart. As an expat, I traded the mountains of La Rioja in Spain for the Swiss Alps, with a detour to my beloved Ireland along the way.
New to the Alps, I quickly exhausted the usual tried-and-tested routes. Frustrated by large, slow and anonymous groups on the trails I booked, I decided to train as a hiking guide. As I progressed, friends started to join me, and I’d plot the route and plan surprises along the way.
Together, we'd notice things we wouldn’t have spotted alone – an unusual rock formation, rare botanical species, the clouds slowly turning pink up the mountains. Sharing our adventures over a coffee in a local buvette, I realised that the mountains are meant to be shared.
In 2022, I completed my hiking guide training with Association Suisse des Guides de Montagne (ASGM), of which I’m also a member. And now, I am excited to share my passion with you!
Living an international life has its challenges. A demanding job, a complicated tax system, culture shock. Not to mention the occasional loneliness. Once you've caught your breath, you’ll be impatient to explore your new home. And what a home! From glaciers to lakes, from mountain streams to snowy peaks, the Alps are the universe's gift to hikers.
